Greetings from… Black Rock City!

August was a fun month, continuing to explore Singapore. I really enjoyed hiking through several of the parks in the city with the boyfriend.

I’m not really one to go seek out drag shows but Avy really enjoys them. We ended up going to a local one in town and it really impressed me. One of the queens on the show was on RuPaul’s UK vs. The World so we went back to watch that season and it was really good!

While being stationary in Singapore, I have watched more media than I usually do when I am back home doing vanlife. We also watched the Fallout series and I freaking loved it. I can’t wait for the second seasons!

On August 16th, I flew back to the USA! I successfully completed my 6 month international trip I set out on at the end of February! I flew from Singapore to San Fransisco and then to Vegas. From Vegas, I picked up my van and had to take a 5 hour roadtrip to Phoenix for a quick / minor van repair. From Phoenix, I drove 12 hours to Reno to get ready for Burning Man!

This is my 5th burn so I have most of the prep-work down to a science. I did make one critical mistake though. In my rush to get everything ready and packed, I didn’t properly lock my e-bike to my van and it was stolen while I was running errands. This really defeated me. It takes a lot to get me rattled but this really rocked me for a bit. It was stolen around 2pm on a Thursday, bike shops would be closing soon and I was set to drive into Burning Man @ 5am the next morning. I had to act fast. I went to one bike shop but they were sold out of e-bikes. I ended up finding a new one from a private seller on Facebook Maketplace. The unexpected extra expense hurt a little but I was ready and hopeful that my new bike would do well at Burning Man. In the end, the bike held up great & I didn’t have any problems with it!

This Burning Man was solid but also nothing noteworthy. During the event, I was asked to rank this one among the others I had attended and unfortunately, this one is probably getting my #5 spot.

The Temple Burn was fairly emotional for me this year. Before this trip, I hadn’t seen many of my friends in over 6 months and after the Temple Burn night, I probably won’t see many of them again for over a year. I did a bit of reflecting & I have become very attached my RV road family over the last 7 years. As much as I love them, I think we have become slightly numb to goodbye’s. We are often leaving each other with a “see ya down the road” but the road I will be going on after this trip is going to be very long.
