My Core Values

In June 2019, I hoped in my van and made the trip up to Portland, Oregon for a gathering of remarkable people: the World Domination Summit. I made a bunch of new friends during this amazing week and was introduced to a lot of interesting ideas. One of my favorite takeaways from the event was the idea of creating a set of personal core values. I have been a part of several companies that had these established but the idea of creating ones for myself was new to me. I was very conflicted on how many I wanted to create. I started with three that I knew for sure I wanted to have on my list. I kind of wanted five total but I kept waffling back and forth on the other two. I decided to just stick with three for now and revisit this again in the future. So without further adu, here are mine.

  1. Fun. This is my North Star. I’ve often been a big beleiver that the meaning of life is to have as much fun as you possibly can (without hurting others). When I am on my death bed and I reflect on my life, the main thing I will thinking about is all of the fun I had and if I had enough of it.

  2. Integrity. It’s very important to me that people and friends of mine of mine look up to me a person of integrity. I wouldn’t want to do anything or make any decisions in my life that would cause my integrity to come into question. When I think of the word integrity, I think about one of my heros, Mister Rogers.

  3. Playful. At first glance, you might think this and fun are the same thing but they are not. I think you can still have fun but being playful takes it to another level. Playful to me, is looking at the world with childlike wonder. Looking at everything as if you were brand new. Being curious.
