My 2nd Michelin Star Restaurant!

After going to my 1st Michelin star restaurant last month in Thailand, I was hooked and super excited for my 2nd one in Singapore!

These are the only facts I knew about the place beforehand:

  • The name of the restaurant is Hawker Chan.

  • Their signature dish was the Chicken Rice.

  • It’s the cheapest Michelin Star restaurant in the world!

  • It’s the only Michelin Star’ed “Hawker Stall” in the world!

I didn’t know what a Hawker Stall was so once I landed in Singapore, it was one of the first questions I asked a local. They explained it is similar to a food court or a food festival, where multiple different restaurants are serving their food in a row of stalls. The big difference is the “hawker” part. As people walk by, there is somebody outside with a menu or samples, trying to tell you about it and talk you into stopping.

When I told another local that I was excited about going to Hawker Chan’s, I was met with an eye roll. This person explained that after Hawker Chan received his Michelin Star, he was receiving so much business, he opened a quick-service restaurant . This person explained that the restaurant version of the place was slightly overrated, and their Chicken Rice wasn’t exactly the most local or authentic way to make it. Hawker Chan now has 12 locations in Singapore & has locations in 8 different countries.

I didn’t let this criticism deter me. I prepared myself for however long the line was going to be and looked up the location that was nearest to his original stall.

In order to avoid a long long, I wanted to be strategic with the timing of my visit. I decided to arrive on a Sunday around 3pm.

I snapped this photo from across the street. Hawker Chan’s is on the bottom floor of this building.

Once inside, I was shocked to see NO LINE!!! There were around 20 customers but they already had their food. I was able to walk right in and order! P.S. The star of this photo is the Merlion!

I love the delicious looking chickens hanging on the rack!

I ordered their signature dish: Chicken Rice.

The meal was delicious! The Chicken was very tender and the sauce was tasty! (The only negative for me was the bones in the chicken).

This converts to $6.40 USD.

I thought it was cool they had the address & stall number of the original location listed. Afterward, I decided to look it up & I found out that not only is his original stall still there BUT he still cooks from there! This is enough reason for me to come back!!!
