Greetings from Black Rock City!

I did a lot of traveling in August. Avy & I flew from Singapore to Tokyo, New York City, Omaha and then Burning Man (a.k.a. Black Rock City).

I really liked Tokyo. It was my first time in Japan. Japan is my 14th country I have been to. We went to Team Lab Planets, which was s upper fun art exhibit. We went to the famous “Shibuya Scramble Crossing” on the street. We went to the top of Tokyo Tower and then went down the outside stairs of it. We walked around the famous “Golden Gai” streets in Shinjuku. We went shopping and explored other various areas areas around Tokyo. I didn’t get to do all of the things I had planned for Tokyo so I’ll definitely be back again. Next time, I’ll check out that bullet train to explore more of the country and I have to catch a Japanese pro wrestling event too.

Onto New York City. I warned Avy going in, I’m just not a NYC type of person. I’m more of a west-coast California type person. This is maybe my 5th or 6th time in New York City and every time i had been before, it was always on the cold side. This was my first time visiting in the summer and I will say, this was one of my better experiences in NYC. I definitely left appreciating it a little bit more this time than I had previously. Avy is a big “Sex in the City” fan so I we did that guided tour. We explored Central Park, we did the NBC Studios tour and we went to a couple of museums (The Met & MoMa). Oh, and I had the best Italian food of my life at Joanne Trattoria. This restaurant is owned by Lady Gaga’s parents and it so good! I’ll definitely make a stop here on every trip to NYC from now on!

From NYC, we flew in to Omaha. We landed and headed to my sisters house. Sadly I was in Omaha for about 18 hours but it was so good to see my mom, family and a couple of my best friends!

From Omaha , we flew to Reno, Nevada. I had a couple friends do me the biggest favor: They drove my van 7 hours from Las Vegas to Pahrump so I could fly in quickly to grab my van and then dart off to Burning Man. Before we drove in, I was able to take Avy around to a couple of my favorite spots in Reno to get good costumes and supplies for Burning Man.

This was my 6th Burning Man & I felt a little burnt out from going after last year so I very strategically decided to do it little bit differently this year. I knew that if I still felt the same after this year, I’d take a little break from going. Thankfully, I’m happy to report that I had such a delightful time this year, I’m already making plans to go back again next year. I think I’ve got a good read on how to make it a good experience, no matter what & I’m excited to dial that in even more next year.

It was a freaking delight to see a bunch of my friends again this year. Some of these friends I only see once a year at Burning Man but it’s so good to catch up. Avy & I arrived for the last half of the week and we couldn’t have timed it any better. The first part of the week had bad wind and rain storms but the weather was nearly perfect for the last half. We were only there for 4 days and the only regret that I have is that I wasn’t able to have very many good, deep conversations with a few of my friends but I plan to make up for that next year!

We left Burning Man on Sunday, August 31st. Stay tuned…
