Free Solo
I’m currently camped outside of Joshua Tree National Park and earlier this week, I was around a campfire with friends discussing Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s performance of “Shallow” @ the Oscars.
And as amazing as that was, that is not what I am recommending. Shortly after that conversation, somebody mentioned the movie that won Best Documentary, Free Solo. My ears perked up because I’m a big nerd for documentaries. I had never heard of the movie before but I also wasn’t surprised because I’m also outside of the pop culture bubble a little bit sometimes. The person who had seen the movie went on to explain what it was about and a bunch of us all were all intrigued to watch it.
The movie is about a rock climber guy who enjoys doing so without any rope or equipment and his desire to solo climb the famed El Capitan vertical rock face at Yosemite National Park! CRAZY!
Here is trailer and after you watch it, how can you not want to see it!
Last night we popped popcorn and made s’mores around the campfire. We attached magnets to a white movie sheet on the side of van, fired up the projector and watched the movie under the stars.
Besides the wonderful environment that I was in, surrounded by friends, the movie was fantastically done and completely breathtaking! I highly recommend going out of your way to see it!
